This picture was issued on 15 Feb. 1955, with a UN press release titled “Five United Nations Agencies Join with Three Governments to Help Andean [Indigenous People]” (TA/540 – SA/175), which tells how the UN and the specialized agencies, through the Expanded Programme of Technical Assistance, are working with the Governments of three Latin American countries to raise the health, nutrition, housing, education, working and social standards of the 6,600,000 Indigenous People who live at high altitudes in the Andes of Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. Participating in this project are: the U.N. Technical Assistance Administration (TAA), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the World Health Organization (WHO).
