Headline France Signs Convention on Foreign Arbitral Awards
Caption Description France today became the 14th country to sign the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards. The 16-article Convention, which was adopted by a United Nations Conference in June 1958, is designed to ensure that a private agreement to arbitrate will be fully respected by the courts of all countries that become parties to it.  The Convention will be open for signature until 31 December 1958, and will come into force 90 days after three countries have ratified or acceded to it.
Mr. Guillaume Georges-Picot (left), France’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, is seen here signing the Convention in the office of Mr. Constantin A. Stavropoulos (seen at right), UN Legal Counsel.
