U.N. Salvage Fleet Removes Tug “Edgar Bonnet”
Caption Description
Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld, Gen. Raymond Wheeler and other U.N. Officials watched today as ships of the U.N. salvage fleet began lifting the “Edgar Bonnet” , a 1,390-ton tug which had blocked the Suez Canal near Ismailia, some 46 miles south of Port Said. Gen. Wheeler, who is in charge of clearing the Suez Canal, expects to have the vessel completely afloat today and to tow her tomorrow to workshops at Lake Timsah. The picture shows Mr. Hammarskjöld (left) and Gen. Wheeler (right) during the raising operation.
