Caption Description One of the highly skilled United Nations interpreters is seen here in his booth over the General Assembly Hall during the current (15th) session of the Assembly. A system of simultaneous interpretation is used in the Assembly auditorium, Council chambers and most of the committee rooms. For example, if a delegate speaks in Spanish, four interpreters almost instantly translate his
words into English, Trench, Russian and Chinese. A dial attached tothe earphones enables the listener to select a continuous interpretation in any of the five official landuages. An interpreter renders into another language the ideas and arguments of the speaker, in the speaker's order. [Exact date unknown]
