Headline
U.N. Receives Japanese Tapestry Gift
Caption Description
A silk brocade portrait of Buddha, estimated to cost ten thousand dollars, was presented to the U.N. on behalf of some seventy million Japanese of the Buddhist faith. Made by the famed Japanese religious artist Jinji Endo, the brocade took three years to complete. The offering was made in order to convey, on behalf of the Buddhist population of Japan, their concurrence with the high ideals embodied in the Charter of the United Nations.
The presentation took place in the office of Mr. Benjamin Cohen, right, Assistant Secretary-General for Public Information, who acted for the Secretary-General in accepting the tapestry. Left is Mr. Takanawo Yoshida, Representative of Japan Buddhist Worshippers Association.
