Headline Gift of Latin American Countries to United Nations
Caption Description The Latin American countries presented to the UN in 1977 a bronze plaque commemorating Simon Bolivar and the Congress of  Panama, which he convened 150 years earlier. This sculpture by Venezuelan artist Marisol Escobar, has inscribed on it, ""In the march of the centuries, perhaps there will be one single nation covering the universe: the federal nation"" in Spanish.  These words were spoken by Simon Bolivar, and were chosen to remind everyone of his universalist ideals whose concepts form the objectives of the Congress of the American countries.
