Caption Description
To increase productivity and facilitate the use of local designs, the Indian Government, with the aid of the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Special Fund sector in 1969, set up a Design Centre for Electrical Measuring Instruments at Saki Naka. The Centre services manufacturers with technical know-how, carries out research and development, initiates and maintains a liaison with national scientific and research institutions and with the Indian Standards Institution, to ensure the interchangeability of mechanical parts, and assists the industry in producing the specialized items needed to manufacture electrical measuring instruments. In addition, it collaborated with the Small Industries Services Institute in arranging for a three-year training programme. With the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as the executing agency, the UNDP (Special Fund) is contributing $833,000, and the Government an equivalent of $739,000, towards this five-year project.
