Canada today signed the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against internationally Protected Persons, including Diplomatic Agent. The Convention, approved by the General Assembly on 14 December 1973 in resolution 3166 (XXVIII), defines ""internationally protected persons"", establishes norms for the protection of diplomatic agents, calls for the prosecution and extradition of alleged offenders and provides machinery for the settlement of disputes arising from interpretation of its provisions.
