The General Assembly, opening its thirtieth regular session this afternoon, elected Gaston Thorn, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Luxembourg, as its President, and admitted three new Member States to the United Nations: Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe, and Mozambique. The Organization now has 141 Members. Welcoming statements were made by a number of delegations, and then the Foreign Minister of Cape Verde, Albilao Augusto Monteiro Duarte; the Prime Minister of Sao Tome and Principe, Miguel Trovoada; and the Foreign Minister of Mozambique, Joaquim Alberto Chissano, addressed the Assembly.
