Headline Statistical Commission Begins Twenty-First Session, New York, 12-21 January 
Caption Description The development of international energy statistics and environment statistics as well as progress made on the National Household Survey Capability Programme are on the provisional agenda of the twenty-first session of the Statistical Commission which will meet for eight days at United Nations Headquarters beginning today.  The 24-member body, which is one of the six functional commissions of the Economic and Social Council, provides guidance on the statistical activities of the Organization by recommending policy to the Council and the Secretariat on gathering statistics and setting standards to make them more comparable internationally.
