Caption Description Secretary-General António Guterres (centre right) and Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento (centre left), President of the Republic of Honduras, attend a signing ceremony of the “Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Honduras and the United Nations Secretariat to Initiate Work on the Establishment of an International, Impartial, Independent and Autonomous Mechanism Against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras”. The details regarding the establishment and functioning of the mechanism would be agreed during the future negotiations on the bilateral agreement. This includes with respect to the appointment by the Secretary-General of the mechanism’s leadership, whose independence and autonomy shall be guaranteed.
