Headline
Ghana's Programme for Malaria Pre-eradication
Caption Description
The Government of Ghana, in co-operation with the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), has launched a malaria pre-eradication programme before starting its anti-malaria campaign this year. A World Health Organization (WHO) malariologist and a laboratory technician, working jointly with Ghanaian doctors and technicians and using UNICEF -supplied vehicles and equipment, are studying epidemiological, entomological and ecological conditions of the country to obtain basic information on the transmission of the disease and ways to combat it.
At the Government laboratory in Ho, a technician dissects a mosquito to determine whether it is a carrier of malaria. This dissection involves the removal of the head, the salivary glands, the stomach, and the other organs of the mosquito. [c. November 1963]
