Tibetan Refugees in Nepal
Caption Description
It is estimated that Nepal has between ten and twenty thousand Tibetan refugees living within its borders. Soon after the first wave of arrivals, the Nepalese Government assisted by the International Committee of the Red Cross set up relief programmes to help the refugees. Milk and food distribution, medical supplies, housing, educational facilities and employment are included in the relief programme.
Miss Allice G. Ochsner, an economist with the International Committee of the Red Cross, models one of the intricately woven coats made by Tibetan weavers at the Refugee Handicraft Centre in Patan. Her Tibetan assistant sits among representative samples of the Tibetan weavers -- rugs, tapestries, etc. [Exact date unknown]
