Aftermath of the War in Korea
Caption Description
To meet the urgent need for food in the devastated cities of Korea, the Unified Command rushed thousands of tons of rice from Japan for freed distribution to the needy. These supplies represented a first installment on the rice promised by the Philippine Republic and Thailand as their contribution to the United Nations' effort in Korea.
Koreans delivering rice to the main distribution point in Seoul under the supervision of Mr. Uit D. Boggard, of the Netherlands, lent by IRO for relief work in Korea (right) and Mr. C. Hart Schaaf, United Nations Special Adviser on Civilian Relief in Korea and Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East. [October 1950]
