Headline Aftermath of the War in Korea
Caption Description The serious problem of feeding the populations of the devastated cities of Korea is the result of the complete cleaning out of all available food supplies by the North Koreans. To meet the urgent need for food, the Unified Command rushed thousands of tons of rice from Japan for free distribution in Korea. These supplies represented a first installment on the rice promised by the Philippine Republic and Thailand as their contribution to the United Nations' effort in Korea.
A widowed mother and her son glean rice grains from the dust at the rice distribution centre in Seoul.
