Headline UN Statistical Commission Opens 12th Session 
Caption Description Plans for an international data-collecting undertaking to be known as the “1963 World Program of Basic Industrial Statistics” will be considered by the U.N. Statistical Committee at its 12th session, which opened on the 24th of April at UN Headquarters.  In addition, the Commission is expected to review activities carried out under the 1960 world population and housing census program; and to examine developments and problems relating to the compilation and use of statistics in industry, social programs, trade, population measurement, and other fields.  The 18-member Commission, a subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council which meets every two years, is expected to continue in session until 11 May.
