Caption Description
On the three subterranean floors of U.N. Headquarters are the water pipes, air and steam ducts, pumps, refrigeration units, the space to store documents and to garage cars. Some 150 persons are employed in the repair shops needed to keep all the machinery in operation, the furniture in trim, the paint spruce and the carpeting whole. Metal fixtures are the concern of the machine metal shop (shown here) where metal sleeves and bearings are made as well as repairs to the kitchen equipment serving the Delegates' Dining Room, the Cafeteria, and two snack bars.
