Railroad and Bridge Re-Built between Katanga and the Rest of Congo
Caption Description
Prime Minister Cyrille Adoula opened the Bukama Railroad and the road bridge over the Lualaba River this morning. The re-opening of the Bukama Railroad marked the resumption of rail communications between the province of Katanga and the rest of the Congo after an interruption of two years. The road bridge was re-built by the Engineer Platoon of the 20th Swedish Battalion with the assistance of the National Congolese Army (ANC).
A Swedish Army carrier crosses the Bukama Bridge. Swedish engenieers of the 20th Battalion finished the bridge in time for the opening ceremony.
