Headline
Building New Schools in Korea
Caption Description
About 64 percent of all classrooms in the Republic of Korea were destroyed or badly damaged and 80 percent of the educational equipment was lost during the recent fighting. School buildings used to quarter troops became targets for bombs and shells. To teach the refugee children, classes are held today in bombed-out buildings, under trees, on mountainsides and even in caves.
This photograph shows school children on parade in front of a new school which is being built with funds contributed by the American Forces for aid to Korea.
