of Bhutan to the United Nations, on behalf of the Group of 77 developing countries and China, introduces the draft resolution titled “Graduation of Bhutan from the least developed country category”. Speaking in his national capacity, he said that the adoption of this resolution will be a milestone for Bhutan — a momentous occasion as it stands on the threshold of a significant transition. It has been 53 years since Bhutan was inducted into the least developed country category in 1971. Since then, Bhutan has traversed an extraordinary path of socioeconomic development.

The General Assembly adopted eight resolutions, covering issues that included promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue, safe water and sanitation in health-care facilities, sustainable use of oceans and security challenges posed by synthetic drugs. Acting without a vote the Assembly adopted the draft resolution “L.24” on enhancing action to address the global public health and security challenges posed by synthetic drugs, encouraging States to explore innovative approaches to more effectively address the problem.
