Headline Farming for Development
Caption Description For some time to come the poorer countries of the world will have to rely on agriculture to raise their living standards and supply the capital they need to create industries. Agricultural production must therefore be increased. This requires tractors, fertilizers, new and better seeds, vast irrigation schemes, land reforms.
Students of Ludhiana University conducting experiments in a successfully cultivated wheat field. The population of India is the second highest in the world, and it is increasing at an annual rate of 2.5 %. As about 85% of the arable area is already under cultivation, increased food production can be achieved by cultivating high-yielding grains. With help from the Food and Agriculture Organization under the UN Development Programme, the Government is conducting several agricultural development projects. [No exact date]
