Headline Food Shortages in the Midst of Plenty
Caption Description Modern farming methods have achieved spectacularly high yields in such staples as rice and wheat. But the grains have been unevenly distributed – mostly to the benefit of the well-fed. Bad weather and higher fuel costs have led to higher food costs. The new farming methods can increase food production where it is most needed. They can be made less dependent on massive amounts of fuel and water. They can be better adapted to local needs and conditions. They can consequently help the people who most need help to grow their own food at prices they can afford.
