Council Calls on States to Take ""All Measures Necessary"" to Facilitate, in Coordination with UN, Humanitarian Aid to Bosnia Herzegovina
Caption Description
The Security Council, concerned with the threat to international peace and security in light of the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, called on all States to take “all measures necessary” to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Sarajevo and other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Security Council reaffirmed its demand that all concerned parties end the fighting in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the adoption of resolution 770 (1992). The resolution was adopted by a vote of 12 in favour to none against and three abstentions; China, India and Zimbabwe. The Security Council also demanded that the International Committee of the Red Cross be allowed continuous access to all camps, prisons and detention centres in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Council also unanimously adopted resolution 711 (1992) which called on all States and international humanitarian organizations to make available to the Council any information substantiating violations of international humanitarian law, including
“ethnic cleansing”.
Participating in the Security Council meeting, from left to right, are Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali; Li Daoyu (China), President of the Security Council; and Benon Sevan, Assistant Secretary-General, Department of Political Affairs.
