Caption Description The briet ceremony took place today in Dag Hammarskjöld's office at Headquarters. Born in 1899, Sir Serenat was active for thirty years in the political life of his country before entering its diplomatic service. In 1952, he was appointed Ceylon's first Minister to Italy, and the following year he became Ambassador to the United States, a position he still occupies concurrently with his post at the U.N. He served as his Government's observer to the 1955 session ot the U.N. General Assembly.
