Their Daily Bread - From UNICEF
Caption Description
These are Austrian boys. They could be Italian, Rumanian, Czechoslovakian, Greek. They could be children in any of the 12 European countries which are receiving daily supplementary meals from the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF). Today UNICEF is providing milk, fats, and meats to almost 4,500,000 European children and nursing and pregnant women. Most of the children, like these boys, receive a cup of milk, lard for their bread and vegetables or meat. Their own country stretches the meal with local foods. UNICEF - the International Cooperative for Children - is supported by both receiving and fortunate countries alike. It serves the needs of needy children everywhere from a stockpile of items pooled by its supporters. Other UNICEF programs include raw material for clothing, medical supplies and assistance, and milk-processing equipment.
