India's first penicillin plant was formally opened at Pimpri, near Poona, today, with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru as guest of honour. The World Health Organization (WHO) helped to draw the blueprints for the new plant, which was built with the help of UNICEF and the U.N. Technical Assistance Administration (TAA).
The Prime Minister and his daughter, Mrs. Indira Ghandhi. after a conducted tour of the factory, arriving at the meeting hall to address the staff and invited guests. At right is Mr. Harekrushna Mahatab, Governor of Bombay State.
