Caption Description India's first penicillin plant was formally opened at Pimpri, near Poona, today, with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru as guest of honour. The World Health Organization (WHO) helped to draw the blueprints for the new plant, which was built with the help of UNICEF and the U.N. Technical Assistance Administration (TAA).  
The Prime Minister addressing a meeting of the staff of the plant and invited guests. Seated are Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Mr. Nehru's daughter, and Mr. Harekrushna Mahatab, Governor of Bombay State.
