Headline
Laos - Background
Caption Description
In Laos, a small kingdom in Southwest Asia, ninety per cent of the population lives in rural areas. Many upland tribes follow the ""slash and burn"" form of farming. They clear the forest by cutting the small trees and burning the refuse. After the land has been exploited for a few years, the people migrate to a new area.
Seen here is a mountain woman and her child in Luang Probang, the small royal capital of the country. (The administrative capital is Vientane.) [Exact date unknown]
