During the 4774th meeting of the Security Council, in connection with the agenda item "The situation in Afghanistan", the Council President declared that security remained a serious challenge facing Afghanistan. The Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations warned that prevailing insecurity posed a serious risk of derailing the peace process. The Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations stressed that the consolidation of peace, security and stability in Afghanistan largely depended on assistance in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the country's social and economic infrastructure.
