Caption Description On the authority of a resolution adopted by the Economic and Social Council on 4 August 1961, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) has entered into agreements with a number of individual Governments for the provision of junior professional officers to serve in UNDP field offices. The most recent Government to enter into such an agreement was the Federal Republic of Germany. As requested by UNDP, Governments submit the names of candidates and provide the necessary financing if their candidates are accepted by UNDP. Candidates are usually assigned to assist UNDP Resident Representatives or comparable officials in the field. Initial appointments are for 1 year. The main purpose of the programme is to help train young professionals for careers in international development activities.
