Headline Indonesians on Community Development Study Tour

Caption Description Last year, in preparation for an introduction of community development on a national scale in Indonesia, the U.N. Technical Assistance Administration (TAA) organized a study tour on that subject for 16 senior Indonesian officials drawn from several ministries. During the tour, which started on November 6, 1955 and ended on February 12, this year, the members of the group visited community development projects and training centres in Burma, Ceylon, India and Pakistan. The tour was directed by Mr. A. Wojcicki, Regional Social Welfare Officer with the U.N. Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East (ECAFE), and accompanied by Mr. Bongiswar, an Indian expert on administration of community development, who has been appointed by TAA to advise the Government of Indonesia.
Members of the group interviewing villagers during their visit of a village in the Nilokheri Community Development project area. The visiting Indonesians greatly admired the samples of village-made embroidery work that were shown to them, but the women --who had done the work-- preferred to watch the visitors from the neighbouring rooftops, together with the children.
