Maternal and Child Health Training and Demonstration Institute in Dacca
Caption Description
The Institute for Maternal and Child Health in Azimpur, Dacca, and its nearby sub-centre on the outskirts of Dacca, receive hundreds of visitors each day and sends trained health visitors to rural villages in the area to advise on nutrition and basic health practice and to effect home deliveries. The Institute covers a population in excess of 50,000 and maintains over 50 maternity beds which handle about 3,000 condiments per annum. Plans are being made to expand both maternity and student training facilities. Student health visitors take a 27-month course at the Institute, which includes 3 months of elementary anatomy, physiology chemistry, physics, nursing, hygiene and first aid; 12 months of midwifery; and 12 months of public health.
Seen here in front of the Mother-and-Child Health Training Centre in Azimpur, are Dr. Shamsum Nahar, Superintendent; and Mr. Da Silva, Assistant Programme and Supply Officer. [Exact date unknown]
