Headline Sixty-Seven Countries Pledge Nearly $3 Million to UNIDO
Caption Description A total of 67 countries pledged the equivalent of approximately $2,778,719 for the activities of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) at a pledging conference which ended this afternoon. Announcing the results of the conference, UNIDO's seventh, the President, Johan Kaufmann (Netherlands) said that the total pledged was in addition to the contribution of the equivalent of $377,358 to be made by the Federal Republic of Germany for the financing of individual UNIDO projects and to the equivalent of $500,000 pledged by Switzerland for the financing of UNIDO.  Mr. Kaufmann observed that a number of delegations had stated that heir pledges to UNIDO would be made as part of their contributions to the UN Development Programme, to be announced at the UNDP pledging conference scheduled for next month. Apart from Mr. Kaufmann, other officers elected this afternoon were Abdullah Yaccoub Bishara (Kuwait) and  Mrs. Emeldah Mathe (Botswana), both as Vice-Presidents. The Conference was opened earlier this afternoon by UN Secretary-General, Kurt Waldheim.
