Headline American Astronauts Visit United Nations
Caption Description American astronauts Colonel David R. Scott, Colonel James B. Irwin and Lieutenant-Colonel Alfred M. Worden visited United Nations Headquarters today. The astronauts were greeted by the Secretary-General, U Thant, outside the Visitors' Entrance to the General Assembly Building. After a brief picture-taking ceremony on the Plaza beside a replica of the ""moon buggy"", the Secretary-General, astronauts and official party proceeded to Conference Room 4 for a showing of slides taken on the moon by the astronauts. Following the slide show, the Secretary-General held a reception for the astronauts and invited guests on the 38th floor.
A framed presentation to the Secretary-General from the Astronauts of a U.N. flag which they carried to the moon's surface and a photograph of their space vehicle on its historic landing site near the Hadley Rill in the vicinity of the Appenine Mountain Range.
