Anglo-French Command and Egypt Exchange Prisoners
Caption Description
An exchange of prisoners and civilian internees held by the Anglo-French Command and the Egyptian Government took place this morning at El Cap, in the buffer zone, under the control of Indian troops of the UN Emergency Force (UNEF). The exchange took place under the supervision of the UNEF's Chief Operations Officer, Lt. Col. Christian Moe, of Norway. Maj. Gen. E.L.M. Burns, Commander of UNEF, was present, as was a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross. The prisoners and internees (472 British civilians, 357 Egyptian service personnel and civilians) were brought in trains by Indian troops under the command of Col. Onka Deva. After their names had been checked, the British internees were sent to Port Said and the Egyptian prisoners and internees to Cairo.
