Second Asian Highway Motor Rally
Caption Description
The Second Asian Highway Motor Rally began in Teheran on 7 November and ended in Dacca on 15 November. Sixty-two cars from 9 countries took part in the rally which took drivers over one of the world's toughest routes - 6800 kilometres - from Teheran to Dacca (East Pakistan), via Kathmandu, passing through five countries - Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal. The rally is the second in a series sponsored by the U.N. Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East (ECAFE) to promote trade and tourism in Asia by publicizing improved road networks across the continent. The first Asian Highway Rally was run in April 1969 from Vientiane to Singapore.
