Headline UN Mission to Observe Act of Self-Determination in Niue 
Caption Description The island of Niue is situated in an isolated position in the South Pacific Ocean approximately 300 miles east of the Kingdom of Tonga, 350 miles south-east of Samoa and 580 miles west of Rarotonga. The island which has an estimated population of 4142 people is administered by New Zealand. On the invitation of the Prime Minister of New Zealand and in accordance with the General Assembly resolution 3155 (XXVIII) of 14 December 1973, a mission composed of Yilma Tadesse (Ethiopia), Chairman, Gholam-Hossein Shahid-Nooray (Iran), and Horacio Arteage-Acosta (Venezuela) visited Niue from 30 August to 6 September 1974 to observe the proceedings relating to the act of self-determination by the Niuean people and to report to the General Assembly at its twenty-ninth session.
Dressed in traditional festival costumes a group of Niuens entertaining their audience.
