Headline
Venezuela: Development of the Guayana Region
Caption Description
In recent years, Venezuela has had one of the world's highest and most sustained economic growth rates as well as one of the highest rates of demographic expansion. As part of the country's overall economic plan, the Government is giving top priority, through the Corporation Venezolana de Guayana (CVG), to the development of the Guayana region in the north, in order to foster industrialization and diversify the economy, to create new exports, to increase employment, and to decentralize the present concentration of economic activities. The United Nations and several of its related agencies are assisting in this programme.
Jose Quijano (centre), member of the UN Radio Section, interviews a family living in a new housing development built by the CVG in Santo Tome de Guayana.
